Heart of Hollywood in the Redbury

Every journey has a beginning and an end and so it goes for our adventures in the United States. We couldn’t have thought for a better last stop than the city where Americans pursue both their biggest dreams and illusions: Los Angeles.

Red

Our very last stop in Los Angeles: The Redbury. You can easily tell by looking at these pictures that the hotel owes much of its name to the colour red. Everywhere you look, from the outside of the building to the lobby and rooms is dominated by this sexy colour. And that word… sexy with a touch of bohemian and burlesque might as well the best way to describe the Redbury, a super trendy boutique hotel in the heart of Los Angeles where many celebrities stay. Gnarls Barkeley was there when we stayed at the hotel!

Suite yourself…

Space! I mean wow. During one month in the United States we stayed at so many different hotels but none of the suites was as roomy as this one in the Redbury. Complete with big living space, kitchen, bar, massive walk-in shower, balcony with lounge chairs and separate bedroom, you feel like you’ve just walked into a fancy apartment rather than a hotel room. We like.

The Inside

It’s quirky, it’s fun, it has a vinyl collection and record player (how cool!) and we especially loved the bedroom area. Cool printed covers, a sea of pillows and beautiful frame wall to as the ultimate finishing touch. The rooms look out straight onto the Hollywood walk of fame and the outdoor courtyard belonging to the Redbury’s “The Library” bar where they serve handcrafted specialty cocktails. Of course we had to put the cocktails to the test! The “Vinebury” was a favourite of mine. A combo of vodka, elderflower liqueur, crushed basil, cucumber, serrano pepper and lemon. Great flavour.

Dine In!

The Redbury is surrounded by a great amount of super hip, fancy restaurants but you don’t even have to leave the hotel to eat well. The Cleo restaurant in the Redbury is an insanely popular spot and rightly so. The Middle Eastern cuisine is divine! Choose from a great selection of mezzes, shared plates and more. We absolutely LOVED it. In the Netherlands restaurants are usually empty on a Monday night, but at the Cleo restaurant there was a queue and by the time it was 20:00 pm the place was packed. Be there on time, it’s so so worth it.

Heart of Hollywood

Stars embedded on the floor carrying the names of many actors and musicians. What am I talking about? The Walk of Fame, of course! The Redbury is located right on this street, which is pretty cool. Just a little reality check though: it’s really just stars embedded in the floor. Not too much glitter and glamour about it. Speaking of the heart of Hollywood, very near to the hotel you’ll find popular nightclub Avalon and insanely popular Sushi restaurant Katsuya. And guess what? We heard that Taylor Swift is often spotted eating there…
Something else we thought was really awesome about the hotel is the complimentary ride they offer (in a BMW!) to anywhere within 3 miles of the hotel. The staff was beyond helpful and it was super convenient for us to get shown around in the area this way.

And to the airport we go…

If you don’t want to spend a lot of money on a taxi to get to LAX airport, there’s a LAX airport bus service just across the road from the Redbury starting service from as early as 5:15 in the morning for only 8 dollar. Easy peasy!

In the past month we’ve seen 15 airports, 12 hotels, we’ve made countless new friends and above all: have experienced so many “first times”. What an incredible time we had! We feel so excited and happy to be able to have shared this journey with you. Do you think this is the end? It’s only the beginning! Keep your eyes peeled because big stuff is in the making…
