Located only a few miles from LAX airport, about 10 minutes from Venice beach and nearby Santa Monica, it’s safe to say that the Custom Hotel is situated at a unique and most convenient location. We made our way to the Custom Hotel from busy Hollywood and loved the idea of being so close to the coolest beach towns in Los Angeles. Travel along with us…
Get lost in Los Angeles…
Prior to our departure from the Netherlands to the United States, I was a little worried that changing hotels every 3 days would be tiring, but once arrived in LA I immediately experienced the advantages of it. The city is MASSIVE. There’s so much to see, but getting from one place to another takes more than 2 hours at times. That’s why changing location every few days is actually a very convenient way of getting to know the different parts of Los Angeles. We started our LA journey in Hollywood, then moved along to the LAX area (Custom hotel!) and we ended the journey with 3 days in Beverly Hills and West Hollywood. Before I ramble on, let’s get back to Custom hotel first.
Boutique style…
What’s really cool about Custom hotel is that you can’t really tell you’re close to the airport, so you can stay in that holiday state of mind or get ready for an upcoming trip without having to worry about making it to the airport on time. There’s a cool outdoor lounge that’s the perfect spot to socialize with other guests, a swimming pool, cool interior and the fact that Venice beach is only 10 minutes away from your doorstep certainly helps with the holiday mood too. If that doesn’t convince you yet, the many cool bars and restaurants in the area will! The minimal design rooms look out over LAX airport, which especially at night is a truly magical experience and at the same time the only thing that remind you of the fact that you’re so close to the airport. Speaking of, Custom hotel conveniently has a complimentary Mercedes shuttle to the airport whenever you want…
Lounging…
The day we arrived to Custom hotel Tatiane and I both felt a little tired, so instead of heading to Venice beach straight away, we decided to hang out by the pool for a few hours. With a cup of coffee at hand, while listening to some laid back lounge music, we got back our energy levels sooner than we expected. For the occasion I wore a maxi skirt in the lightest fabric, along with a big hat to cover from the sun and a basic white top that has been a life saver in my travel wardrobe. Later that day we went to Venice beach for a walk and to enjoy the sunset. The iconic light blue life guard look outs and beautiful white beaches make for the ultimate spot to relax and hang out. Needless to say we had a great time and after witnessing the most incredible sunset we went out for dinner at Italian restaurant C&O Cucina on recommendation from a local we met on the beach. Delicious and so much fun, definitely worth a visit if you’re in the neighbourhood.
The facts
Custom hotel is part of JDV hotels, a unique series of boutique hotels that have a creative and one of a kind vision in common . With hotels located all over the US, you can have a different travel experience every time. Cool features of the hotel include colour changing LED lights in the rooms, a different graphic concept on every floor, beautiful poolside restaurant Deck 33 that serves so called American comfort food (always good!) and a modern lounge area to sit down. There’s also two computers in the lounge which make it easy to check in for your next flight or print out your baardig passes. Oh, and let’s not forget about what’s perhaps my favourite thing about the hotel: you can watch the planes at LAX landing and flying in from your bed room. Totally adds to the travel experince.
Onto the next destination
On July 13th, it was time to get ready for our next destination. We were going to fly out from LAX airport at night, so we spend most of our day catching up on work in the easy going lounge at the Custom hotel. Around 8pm we collected our luggage and experienced first hand how easy it really is to het from the hotel to the airport. In less than 10 minutes we arrived! Ready to go to Key West, but first a long flight…
