The Portobello Hotel in Notting Hill

Located in the heart of London’s beautiful Notting Hill, the Portobello hotel took us by surprise. Not only because it’s located at an unexpected spot in a residential neighbourhood, but also because the hotel’s charm takes you from the moment you enter.

Arriving…

We had a very early flight from Amsterdam and arrived at the Portobello hotel spot on at 9am. Our room wasn’t ready yet, so instead we went straight to have some breakfast in the sitting room. A room that actually feels like a Victorian home with its red touches, printed carpets and exquisite details on the furniture and walls. We ordered ourselves some scrambled eggs, platter of fresh fruit and a cappuccino. All the ingredients one needs to wake-up and start the day right!

The hotel

Like I mentioned at the start of this post: the hotel is located at a very unexpected spot right in the middle of Notting Hill. We almost walked passed it on arrival thinking we must be in the wrong place. The only sign that confirmed we were actually at the right spot was the subtle writing ‘Portobello Hotel’ on the front door. The hotel opened its doors in 1971 and has since been the place to stay in London for many known names in the music, fashion and showbiz industry. Something we were unaware of, but which completely makes sense not only for its inspiring interior and ambiance, but also because of its discrete location. On another note, the staff at the Portobello is simply great! Very helpful, attentive and great to have a chat with.

Our room

With its tangerine walls, bath tub in the middle of the room, cool furniture pieces (crushing on that wooden coffee table as seen below!) and kingsize bed it’s an easy place to feel welcome to. Our room looked out over a park and with the sun light coming in while we’re shooting, I felt so happy! Extra bonus points are earned by the nespresso machine and the delicious chocolates left on our pillows at night. It’s all in the little things, don’t you agree?

The look

Oh man, I just really love off the shoulder tops! Especially with midi length skirts, they’re a great way to balance things out and show a bit of skin. I hate the way ‘showing a bit of skin’ sounds (it implies the wrong things in my point of view), but I think you get my point. The skirt is made from a thick yet easy to move fabric and looks at least 5 times more expensive than it is, if you ask me. The example of an understated yet polished look with the silver shoes being the surprise element. Ha! Aren’t they cool?

The end already…

Yep, we could easily have stayed at the Portobello hotel for another 2 weeks. Even if it were only to get to walk right out of the door in the prettiest of streets. Very much recommended for your London stay, especially if you love everything Notting Hill has to offer. Which I’m sure everyone does!
