Oh, Costa Rica! There aren’t many places left in the world that are so breathtakingly beautiful and raw as Costa Rica, more in particular Nosara. We spend a week there in January and these are the 5 main reasons this place is worth a visit.
Nature
The nature in Nosara is really like no other place. The combination of jungle, endless white beaches and quiet local life with no big roads or noise really makes for a unique experience. Pura vida at its best.
Eco System
The ‘Tico’s’ are very protective when it comes to their nature. That’s no wonder considering the fact Costa Rica is known for its biodiversity and its unique eco system. Costa Rica certainly isn’t a cheap place to travel, but considering how much the government cares for its land you feel good being able to contribute even in the smallest ways.
Surf place
Did you know that Nosara has been named one of the 20 best surf cities around the World by National Geographic? Not a bad place to take surfing lessons for the very first time like we did! Nosara is situated at Costa Rica’s pacific coast. The water is warm, the waves are high, there are no rocks in on the surface in the ocean. Yep. Perfect surfing conditions! We joined the lessons at Safari Surf school (read that post here) and it was an amazing experience.
No tourists
No big hotel chains here, so everything has been kept super authentic and real. There are a great amount of hostels though, but that doesn’t take away anything of Nosara’s charm.
Wildlife
Costa Rica is home to more than 500.000 species (!), making it one of the 20 countries with the higest biodiversity in the world. We could totally get a taste of Costa Rica’s wildlife because we walked from our hotel through the jungle to the beach every day. Imagine monkey’s jumping around in the trees, all kinds of colourful birds and I hate to say this but: a lot of insects you didn’t know even existed.
Nosara is really the kind of place you should visit when you need to ‘get away from it all’. I think we’ve all been there at some stage in our lives and this place is the solution!
Have you been to Costa Rica? What did you love most about it?
