I think there’s nothing more feminine than a black lace dress, especially when it involves one that has a midi length. I wore this last week (minus the biker jacket) when I accompanied Hassan to a cocktail party of this work. Such a classic!

When picking my outfit, I questioned what the rules are when it comes to dressing for a cocktail party. I think first of all it’s important to consider the occasion. If it’s something corporate from your work or your partners, I’d go for a midi length dress or skirt rather than something very short. Colour wise, I personally prefer to keep it a little neutral as well, so I’d opt for black, navy or white. However, this totally depends on what you’re comfortable with! If it’s a more informal occasion, you can play around with more daring styles if you like. Looking elegant is all about the right balance, so choose wisely. Want to wear a bright lip? Then take it easy your eye-shadow (e.g. no bright colours, not too glittery) and blush. If you’re wearing a dress which is a little short, than make sure you’re not showing much décolleté and the other way around.
Considering the fact that I photographed this outfit the day after the actual party, I added a biker jacket to make the outfit a little more day time appropriate, which I think worked out pretty good. I purchased the dress I’m wearing in Asos SALE and I couldn’t recommend it more, it has such a flattering fit and only cost $40.
Here are some of my favourite cocktail party dresses:
